Daimler threaten further compulsory recalls

Daimler has to call back 60.000 GLK 220cdi
The Kraftfahrtbundesamt has obliged Daimler to recall 60.000 Diesel GLK (220cdi) with the Euro Norm 5 because of illegal defeat devices.

Background: Coolant setpoint temperature control
With a so-called "coolant setpoint temperature control" exhaust gas tests are to be embellished. According to the Bild am Sonntag ("BamS") report, the Federal Motor Transport Authority had already come across the controversial software function in the OM 2018 engine in autumn 651. Further emission measurements were then made. Initially, unusual measured values were only found on the GLK 220cdi. But now the emissions scandal seems to be spreading around Mercedes. As a Daimler spokesman confirmed, engines with the problematic coolant setpoint temperature control are not only installed in the GLK model series, but also in certain Mercedes-Benz C, E and S-Class cars, far more of which are sold were.
Nitrogen oxide limits are exceeded
According to initial findings, the legal limit value for nitrogen oxides in the New European Test Cycle (NEDC) is only met if the so-called coolant setpoint temperature control is active. In regular road operation, however, the function is deactivated and the limit of 180 milligrams per kilometer is clearly exceeded.
